It has been a dramatic, tragic and emotionally charged weekend for the football community. Those words could be used to describe the majority of weekends in football, but this time they are being used for all the wrong reasons. No matter who you are or where you are, even if you only have a fleeting interest in football you will be well aware of recent events.
On Saturday evening when Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the field at White Hart Lane and in the days since then, we have seen the more touching, caring and supportive side of football. It shouldn’t take a player collapsing for the football community to pull together but in this case it has.
There has been overwhelming worldwide support from clubs, players and fans for Muamba and as we are learning this evening, he is beginning to show signs of recovery. Positive signs, indeed.
Many tears will have been shed this weekend. Football is an emotional game. And that’s why we love it.
Keep on fighting Fabrice – the football community is right behind you.
