He has made 64 international appearances for Ireland, played in a Champions League semi-final for Leeds United but now Ian Harte can be seen slogging it out in League One with Carlisle United.
Harte made 213 appearances in his 11 years at Leeds, before moving on to Levante in Spain where injuries plagued him and only playing 56 games in 3 years.
A dead ball specialist, Harte is left-footed free kick and penalty taker, and certainly takes the opportunity of a shot on goal where possible. I’m very surprised there aren’t more clips on youtube, but this one will suffice.
After returning from Spain, the Irishman went on to play for Sunderland under Roy Keane and Blackpool, while also having unsuccessful trials with Wolves, Sheffield United and Charlton before joining Carlisle United at the start this summer.
He has since signed a contract extension of two years which will see him stay with the club until 2011. He’s made his regular return to football now with the League one side and has played 9 games already this season, scoring 3 goals.
